Cockapoos have been bred informally for many decades
in America, and as the name indicates are a cross (hybrid) of pure English or American,
show or working cocker spaniel and poodle. They have also become very popular
in other countries such as Austrailia and Sweden where they are usually called Spoodles.
They are known to be intelligent and have wonderful dispositions, long lives
and a non to low shedding coat.
Likewise they have very little dander which is the main culprit for allergies to dogs.
They have less genetic defects than in pure breds and can live up to 22 years of age.
They have few health problems and are easy to train because of their intelligence.
Cockapoos have a patient disposition and sweet nature which makes them ideal as
family dogs. They are very affectionate and loyal, open and friendly.
They have no doggy odour and can have quite a sturdy build. The general shape
of the cockapoo resembles the spaniel but the coat and face more closely
resemble that of the poodle.
They come in a range of colours both solid and combinations.
Their sizes may vary depending on the parents size but the average height
is 10 to 15 inches. And weight is 12 -
